  • The Class of 2012 has raised approximately $13,000. This sum includes approximately $8,000 raised by the class and a matching gift of $5,000 from the Westly Foundation.

    After completing a survey with options for a Class Gift, the majority of students from the Class of 2012 selected to have their class gift be to fix the WiFi.

  • As an infant research institution, UC Merced is paving the way for a better understanding of the world. As the hallmark and one of the missions of UCM, research has played a major role in the school’s development. 

  • Although businesses have been closing down in Merced, opportunities for students, such as the Dr. and Mrs. Vikram Lakireddy Innovation and Design Clinic (IDC), are still here to stay. The purpose of the clinic is to give UC Merced undergraduates the chance to come up with innovative solutions to real problems faced by local businesses. Local cardiologist, Dr. Vikram Lakireddy, hasdonated $150,000 to the Dr. and Mrs. Vikram Lakireddy IDC Endowment Fund. 

  • A team comprised of researchers from the University of California, Merced has received a 1.37 million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support biodiversity research. The team’s mission is to analyze environmental changes in marine lakes in Palau and determine how such changes will affect the lakes’ ecosystems. 

  • Lawsuits are being filed against Facebook Inc., Wal-Mart Stores Inc., and Walt Disney Co for alleged copyright infringement.

  • A futuristic world with hands free automobiles isn’t as farfetched as you might think.  California is currently in the process of approving Senate Bill 1298, which if passed, would “require the Department of Motor Vehicles and California Highway Patrol to set safety and performance standards for self-driving vehicles” and allow autonomous cars to be tested on public roads.
