With the OZZI’s 2013 Best Practice Award and future improvements on the way for the initiative, UC Merced is making statewide strides in sustainability efforts.

The 2020 Project at UC Merced is the current phase of a larger sustainability plan called the Triple Zero Commitment established by the Long-Range Development Plan (LRDP). The goal of this detailed LRDP is to achieve zero net energy, eliminate landfill waste, and climate neutrality by the year 2020.

UC Merced is now at a crucial time for campus growth. Thomas Lollini, FAIA Campus Architect, discussed with The Prodigy about the construction happening now. Current projects on campus include: The Summits—Half Dome, Science & Engineering Building II, and the Student Services Building.

The new Classroom and Academic Office Building “CAOB” for the School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Arts [SSHA] will be located between the Kolligian Library and Ranchers Road. The Senior Project Director for Physical Planning, Design and Construction for CAOB, Leon Waller, shares some information about the new building with us.
