UC Merced—charming as ever—has managed to win the affections of yet another member of the extended community. Margo Souza, a Central Valley business woman, recently made a generous $1 million contribution to the UCM campus.

With the OZZI’s 2013 Best Practice Award and future improvements on the way for the initiative, UC Merced is making statewide strides in sustainability efforts.

The sequestration cut, which took effect on March 1, includes a cancelled $85 billion in automatic spending. Its purpose is to help ease the U.S. out of its at least $16 trillion debt. The cuts are expected to unfold over the next seven months.

The Joseph E. Gallo Recreation Center bustled with most unusual liveliness for a Thursday morning. For those who choose Greek life, there are several benefits ahead. For those who have opted out, hope is not completely lost.

All UC’s to be Tobacco-Free in 2014

 

MOOYAH Burger in The Promenade center on Yosemite Avenue shut down for winter break. The store now stands empty with a sign on the front door that reads, “MOOYAH Burgers will be closed from December 25, 2012-January 1, 2013.”  However, this is not the case. The restaurant will not be opening its doors again. 

As an infant research institution, UC Merced is paving the way for a better understanding of the world. As the hallmark and one of the missions of UCM, research has played a major role in the school’s development. 

As of August 16, Facebook has a new competitor at UC Merced – At the Pool. The new social media service seeks to differentiate itself from its rivals by facilitating electronic social interactions differently – instead of sites like Facebook, which developed along a model geared for networking and meeting large numbers of people, At the Pool seeks to promote individual friendships that will last.

UC Merced students are getting ready for the finale of the 2012 spring semester.  As we are getting closer to the end of the school year, nostalgia is prevalent among Bobcats, especially senior students who are graduating. Like every year, UC Merced says goodbye to the annual graduating class.
